Wood From Cradle to Crown a Life in PicturesOlivea is not just a pageant girl she uses her titles to give back to others. She wants to show the world that a child can make a difference.
This is a sweet and endearing little book which introduces eight-year-old Olivea Slaney, the newly crowned Newfoundland Pageant Princess. Like all pageant girls she loves the crowns, the beautiful dresses, bright swimwear and colorful Pro-Am outfits, but Olivea is not your average Pageant Princess for as the title of the book states, she is ‘One of a kind’. Olivea is a princess on a mission which is to make a difference where it matters most. She is using her Pageant Princess status to help her local charities to which she is an ardent supporter, and at the same time show pageants in a positive light.
As quoting from her book:
‘She wants to also show others that a child can be a pageant star but also help others. She wants people to understand pageant girls are not spoiled brats as others have stated on You Tube. There are some caring pageant children who use their titles to do good for others’.

High Glitz by Susan Anderson
High Glitz is a close up and intimate look at America’s child beauty pageants, and in turn our society’s obsession with youth, beauty, fame, and fortune. Susan Anderson’s vibrant portraits of pageant contestants twist notions of sexuality and identity, with a new perspective on this uniquely American subculture.
“High Glitz” is a subgenre of child beauty pageants characterized by couture “glitz” costumes and a broad array of cosmetic preparations including among other tricks of the trade: glamour makeup, elaborate hairstyles, and “flippers” (false front teeth veneers). Anderson’s stunning visuals are complimented by a “High Glitz Style Guide”, defining and providing examples of the following categories: Beauty/Formal Wear, Western Wear, Modeling, and Pro-Am, with a special section on hairstyles such as the “Barbie” and the “Up-do”.
Each year as many as 100,000 children under the age of 12 participate in U.S. child beauty pageants, and it has recently become a billion-dollar industry. Parents invest thousands of dollars on costumes and private coaches to give their children a competitive edge. Countless hours are spent by professional hair and makeup artists on each child in preparation for the competition. The girls are spray-tanned, made-up, and groomed to a glossy perfection. Anderson captures the results of this time-consuming transformation process in exquisite detail. In seeing how our society’s values of beauty, glamour, and celebrity are reflected in the hopes and dreams of thousands of young girls, we realize that these pageants are a reflection of American culture itself. Little Miss Sunshine - Movie
Take a hilarious ride with the Hoovers, one of the most endearingly fractured families in comedy history. Father Richard (Greg Kinnear) is desperately trying to sell his motivational success programme…with no success. Meanwhile “pro-honesty” mom Sheryl (Toni Collette) lends support to her eccentric family, including her depressed brother (Steve Carell), fresh out of the hospital after being jilted by his lover. Then there are the younger Hoovers – the seven-year-old, would be beauty queen Olive (Abigail Breslin) and Dwayne (Paul Dano), a Nietzsche-reading teen who has taken a vow of silence. Topping off the family is the foul-mouthed grandfather (Alan Arkin), whose outrageous behaviour recently got him evicted from his retirement home. When Olive is invited to compete in the “Little Miss Sunshine” pageant in far off California, the family piles into their rusted-out VW bus to rally behind her – with riotously funny results.
PAGEANT STARS USA MOVIE REVIEW:
Little Miss Sunshine is an enjoyable movie well worth watching. Sadly it’s not for children as there are some scenes of drug taking, swearing and adult themes. However that aside, it’s a great movie. It follows the Hoover family journeying to California in their clapped out, VW bus, so that their seven-year-old daughter, Olive, can follow her dream and compete in the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant. The pageant starts fine with some excellent High Glitz pageantry, but Olive’s dance routine causes the pageant to be thrown into chaos. It’s hilarious!

The Little Rascals Save The Day - Movie
The gang then sets up a pet care business which also goes
dreadfully wrong when they accidentally turn the animals, including Darla's beloved
pet cat, 'Princess Fluff-a-rinia', green! Darla is not impressed and blames
Alfalfa! However, Darla is being won
over by Waldo's attentions leaving Alfalfa out done and feeling at a loss of
what to do. The gang soon decide to set up a Taxi service, with their own ramshackle
taxi which runs on dog power. Alfalfa offers Darla a lift to the library which
makes Waldo jealous and he sabotages the taxi, the breaks fail and Darla is
taken on a terrifying journey across town until finally the taxi crashes.
Luckily no one is hurt, but Darla is angry with Alfalfa and when Waldo arrives
in his own car Darla is only too happy to accept a lift to the library. Once
again Alfalfa fails to win Darla's heart and once again the gang has failed in
business.
Spanky, the gang's leader, soon comes up with another ingenious
plan to save the bakery and for Alfalfa to impress Darla. They decide to sell
tickets to their own exclusive wrestling match between Alfalfa and the mysterious Mask Marvel. Waldo bets
Spanky all their money that Alfalfa loses the match so the stakes are incredibly
high. It is supposed to be an easy fight for Alfalfa, but sneaky Waldo sees to
it that Alfalfa loses in spectacular style and hence the gang lose all their
takings and end up broke.
The gangs only hope of saving the bakery is to enter and win
a talent contest which has a prize of $10,000, but the only trouble is their
band 'The International Silver String Submarine Band' sounds terrible and is in
need of a lot more practice. Waldo it would seem has won Darla's heart and
together they enter the contest with their own brilliant singing and dancing
act. Their amazing performance of 'Candy Girl' wow's the judges and the
audience, making their act the one to beat! Can the gang succeed with their
hopeless out of tune playing? Can Alfalfa win Darla's heart? Can the Bakery be
saved? The ending is fabulous!
PAGEANT STARS MOVIE REVIEW:
This movie is based on the hugely popular, old, black and
white, Little Rascals/Our Gang series of the 1930's. Though the film and characters have
been updated to cater for a modern audience, it still keeps alive the charm and
slapstick of the original series. This is a fantastic movie full of fun and laughter
that children of all ages will love! The plot moves at a quick pace and keeps
you entertained throughout. All the actors, both adult and children are
wonderfully cast and credible. Former Pageant Star, Eden Wood dazzles as Darla giving
an outstandingly, cute performance, utilizing her talents of singing and
dancing into the part. The scene where Eden
sings a catchy little number, 'My Friend', is just wonderful and alone makes
this movie well worth watching! A great movie full of fun for all the family! A
must have for all Eden Wood fans! To buy this movie on DVD click on the link here. The
